Is there a “painfully amateur” category? Cuz if so, I’m totally rockin’ that. Otherwise you can probably use my entry as a dire warning for others. :-) Still – a ton of fun. Thank you so much for organising this! I can’t wait til the next one!

And without further ado… Here’s my entry.

Dimensions: Approximately 13.5″ around, about 20″ tall. (Gee, I wonder why it’s tippy…)

Materials: About 1/2 of a board of 5/4 maple for the legs, a 1/2″ poplar dowel, and a piece of 3/4″ maple-faced plywood for the seat. (There was supposed to be foam & upholstery fabric to finish it, but things went awry.)

My greatest challenge during the build was the simple fact that I didn’t have a clue what I was doing, and made a lot of mistakes – starting with trying to create my own design without the experience to recognise the flaws.

A few words about my stool: Look, it’s a terrible stool. I’m confident that it’s the worst of the build-off by far, but I don’t care because my whole reason for joining in was to have fun, try new things, and learn. By those criteria, I definitely succeeded.

I have no suggestions for the next one, but I hope it’s something that’s simple enough I’d have a hope of building it in a weekend. I had an absolute blast and I’m looking forward to participating again. And who knows, next time I might even come up with a respectable entry! :-)
